Anytime you can combine education with entertainment so that students want to learn, it’s a winning formula. Mr. Duey’s project has nailed it.

It is nice to see a kids educational CD which is cool and hip to listen to and at the same time have a learning experience while he or she are tapping their feet. It is one of the best learning/entertaining CD’s out there. It was my pleasure to work with you guys. Best regards.

DJ Duey brings learning and fun to the classroom by combining hip hop and rap with basic educational tools that kids need for success. Kids are finally sitting up and learning in Mr. Duey’s class. Class Dis-missed is a major success. Students will never learn the same way again.

My name is Dr. Elizabeth Johnson and I am a professor in Teacher Education at Eastern Michigan University as well as an educator for 35 years. I prepare teachers and administrators for K-12 schools as well as provide dynamic professional development to educators across our great country. This is a rare and unique opportunity to transform education and the lives of children and their families for an eternity. This goes well beyond “simple marketing”; rather, the product (Mr. Duey’s CD and website) can become the single most dynamic intervention strategy to reach our nation’s struggling youth. Teachers from all over the US representing diverse culture, ethnicity, and social economic status testify to me that Mr. Duey’s music has profoundly increased academic achievement as well as greatly decreased discipline problems. Why . . . Rap “Mr. Duey” style meets both the emotional and academic needs and teaches to the hearts and minds of our youth. Here’s the equation: Mr. Duey + Teacher Willingness = Student Success. I stand in awe at how life- changing this is and how the methodologies that Kathy and I utilize within our workshops for educators (inclusive of DJ’s music) have greatly increased test scores and lessened discipline issue. Gentlemen, let us not lose sight as to the power and potential of reaching students through Hip and Pop Culture. Congrats to Andrew and DJ for acting not on impulse, but one integrity.

Mr. Duey,
We met Friday night at the heartland cafe off Times Square, and I must say, I was skeptical at first about “educational rap”. But lo and behold, we listened to your demo the next day, and were blown away. Not only are you a cool person, but a talented rapper as well. It amazed us that your lyrics can be both intelligible AND intelligent; the polar opposite of todays overrated “rap” music. Like you said, there’s only so much “booty and bling” to go around. Your music is like gangster rap for kids like me that grew up watching discovery channel. Although I’m well-versed in your subject matter (I actually paid attention in middle school), I still find it supremely enjoyable to listen to. Plus, to the untrained ear, it sounds like mainstream rap music, blasting from my stock speakers on my 96 Nissan maxima. Congratulations on your success thus far, and continued success in the future. Count us among your fan base.

I recently gave a linear function test to my 7th grade students, after the students had listened to, and learned the “Point Plotting Rap”. To my amusement, as the students took the test, I could see them bouncing to the beat of the rap. I could not wait to check there answers to the test questions. The scores improved by 15 points over the same test a year ago. I am a believer in the power of rap!!
Thanks for your help,

To Whom It May Concern,
I recently had the unique pleasure of listening to Mr. Duey’s math rap recordings. While I had heard that he was a talented musician, I was not expecting to be so “blown away”. The students who listened with me were equally impressed. The songs sound musically relevant and, when combined with the worksheets, they create what could be a very innovative teaching tool. Over the years, I have heard many attempts at using music to trick students into learning. However, I have never heard any raps that sound so current and “real” that kids bob their heads, rather than roll their eyes. As a middle school English teacher, I would JUMP at the chance to have this kind of resource at my disposal. Getting students excited about learning is half the battle. However, when they are so excited by the method that they forget they are doing work, the battle is already won.
