Commas – Lyrics

Lyrics – Commas

By: Daniel Joseph Duey

Chorus 1
I got my headphones, (comma) microphone, (comma), Pro Tools, (comma)
and a track hotter than lava
Repeat 2X

Verse 1
Mr. Duey is about to teach you when it’s proper and when not
to drop a comma in and out one of your sentences. This is, a tricky topic
and you gotta watch whether or not the conjunction splits two complete
sentences. Because if you put in a conjuction such as and, but, for, or, or nor,
of course you’re gonna get abused, brain bruised, confused without knowing
the rules, put helmet on I’m about to cruise to this. If it splits into two complete
sentences, before the conjuction put a comma next to it. Put a comma
next to and in the line I’m gonna rip. “I’m in the studio, and I’m flipping rhymes so
sick”. Here’s an example of what not to put a comma in. A sentence with
only one main clause in it. If I told you “I was flowing out of control and dropping
hits”.. I wouldn’t need to put a comma in it.

Chorus 2
I got my headphones, (comma) microphone, (comma), Pro Tools, (comma)
and a track hotter than lava
Repeat 4X

Verse 2
Use a comma after a word, a phrase or an introductory clause the comes
before the main clause. I’d put a comma after stage when I say “On stage,
I’m bringing down the house like I’m hauling a chainsaw”. Use a comma
to seperate a series of three or more clauses, words, or phrases.
Say that I say this, “My records ballin, turns like the earth’s rotation
and the radio play this”. I’d put a comma after ballin no need to
between all the three clauses that I was saying… “and” was the
conjunction serving its function like my vocals through
the microphone when this beat was playing.

Chorus 3
I got my headphones, (comma) microphone, (comma), Pro Tools, (comma)
and a track hotter than lava
Repeat 4X

Verse 3
Lets say you take a clause, word, or phrase and place it in
the middle of one of your sentences, and the clause, word,
or phrase you say is not essential to the sentence
with no particular relevance. You put a comma before and
after what you say that doesn’t matter or maybe matters
but off topic a bit. Like if I was to say “During the day, the sun
was out, and I took my red Porsche for a spin”. I’d put a comma
before and after the sun was out. It was pleasant the sun was out
but the Porsche is what I was in and that’s the main clause I was
trying to get across in this sentence how I floss with these whips
that I spin.

Chorus 3
I got my headphones, (comma) microphone, (comma), Pro Tools, (comma)
and a track hotter than lava
Repeat 4X

Note: Hip Hop slang alert
Floss = How you carry yourself in a certain way
Spin = Drive
Whips = Cars
Ballin = Sucessfull
